10 Road Trip Packing List Essentials

1. Water Bottles and Snacks: Thirst and hunger can make you uncomfortable on a road trip. Some people do not prefer drinking or eating while traveling to avoid using restrooms, but it is not recommended. So fill up some reusable water bottles, buy some protein bars, munching, and you are good to go.

2. Toiletries Bag: When you eat and drink, you ought to use a restroom. So the next important thing without which you can’t leave the house is your toiletries bag. Some of the things it includes are:

  • Toothpaste and brush
  • Toilet paper and Wet & dry wipe
  • Hand sanitizer and hand towel
  • Lip balm
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray

3. Things you can easily forget: This list might vary from person to person. However, there are certain things we ought to forget that we really shouldn’t. If you are traveling to remotes places, you are likely to lose connection. So you can put a portable phone charger and paper maps in your travel bag. You can also pack sunglasses, hats, rain jackets and umbrellas.

4. Paper or plastic bags for trash: Be a responsible citizen, and take responsibility for your trash. Keep small plastic bags to collect trash, and keep the car (and the roads) clean. You can add dry and wet waste in separate plastic bags for better sanitation.

5. Car safety items: If you are going on a long road trip, you would not want your car to encounter any trouble. But in case it does, you should prepare yourself for it. Always check the condition of your spare tire. Add car safety items like battery booster cables, flashlights, or a headlamp. Also, if you’re driving in the snow, you add snow/winter tires or tire chains in your car.

6. Entertainment and Gadgets: Driving and sitting for a long time can make road trips boring. So take a break and keep yourself entertained. For this, you can have some good audiobooks on your kindle, camera, Bluetooth speakers, and a list of games you can play with your friends.  

7. Daypack and blankets:  You are likely to explore some places while you are on your road trip. You might also stop somewhere to check out scenic views or to go on a small trek. For this, you can pack a small backpack which lightweight and easy to carry. You can put all the essential items into it and take it where ever you want. Also, if you are to spend the night in your car, you can consider taking a warm blanket and a travel pillow with you. 

8. First aid kit:  One of the most crucial things to pack is a first aid kit. You can have some painkillers, headache, stomach ache, and nausea pills. Also, you can add bandages, scissors, creams for skin rash, etc.  

9. Hard Cash: You cannot fully rely on credit cards. Depending on where you are going, you should have some cash as maybe that is the only payment option available there.  

10. Important Documents: Do carry important documents on a road trip. It can be the vehicle’s license/registration, the insurance policy, and even the car’s manual.
